The movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" depicts a teenager intent on taking some time off to enjoy life. Ferris and his friends spend one whirlwind day enjoying a diverse sampler of Chicago's most memorable experiences. Any one of the activities by itself could take up the better part of a day, but with some careful planning and an adventurous spirit, you can follow Ferris's marathon odyssey through Chicago. The day will leave you exhausted but grateful that you heeded Ferris's invitation to pause and "take a look around."
Instructions
1. Enjoy a breathtaking view of Chicago from the Willis Tower Skydeck.
Make your way to Willis Tower, and follow the signs to the Skydeck. Your ears will pop as you ascend nearly 110 floors to the observatory. Watch tourist jaws drop at the amazing view of the city and Lake Michigan.
2. Gaze at impressionist masterpieces at the Art Institute of Chicago
Enjoy a 15-minute walk from the Skydeck to the Art Institute of Chicago. Take in the grand masterpieces of Claude Monet and Renoir. Lose yourself in Seurat's painting "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte," just as Cameron does in the movie.
3. Root for the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Walk over to Jackson Street, and take the Howard Dan Ryan subway train roughly 30 blocks north to Addison Street. As you get off the train, put on your blue Cub's hat and enter Wrigleyville. This neighborhood is home to one of America's most famous ball parks, Wrigley Field. Root for the "Cubbies" in your loudest voice.
