Have A Successful Garage Sale

Many people have garage sales throughout the year. Here you can learn organize your garage sale and be successful at it. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Gather Your Items-

To have a garage sale you need to have items to sell. We all have things stored that we haven't used or seen in a long time. A general rule is that if you haven't used the item in 2+ years then you should get rid of it. If you don't have enough items then see if people on your street or family members would like to do a group garage sale.

2. Create Signs & Pricing Posters-

Make all your signs the same so that customers will be able to tell that it's your garage sale sign they're following. Place them on street poles with arrows pointing the direction (if it's legal to do so in your town). Also, instead of pricing each individual item, have like items together and put up one poster stating the price. Example: Hardcover Books-$$, Paperback Books-$$, etc. Then just have a price guide with you at the register. This will save you money on supplies.

3. Put an ad in your local paper-

Often times your town will have a city-wide garage sale. This is the best time to have your garage sale since everyone will be out and about and more likely to visit. However, you can be successful at other times of the year of you place an ad in the paper. The cost of your ad will depend on how many letters/characters you have. So choose your words wisely and pick out the items you have the most of or items that you think will sell the best to put in your ad. Be sure to include the date, time, and address of your garage sale.

4. Have your garage sale-

Have someone there to help you in case you have to go to the bathroom or get something to eat. Otherwise your garage sale is open to stealing if you leave even for one second. Be sure to have plastic bags for people to put their items in & enough change in your cash drawer so that you won't be constantly running to get more change. Smile, try to be friendly, and be prepared to haggle. If you're friendly, helpful, and convincing, then people will be more likely to buy. Enjoy your garage sale!
