Have A John Travolta Movie Marathon

Born in February 1954, John Travolta first became known for his role as Vinnie Barbarino on the television series "Welcome Back Kotter" in the '70s. Travolta also got his movie start in the '70s with "Saturday Night Fever" and "Grease." John Travolta continued to rise to Hollywood fame through the '80s and '90s and is still a big name today. What better way to see his versatility in his roles than to have a movie marathon in his honor. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions


1. Watch the 1977 musical drama "Saturday Night Fever." Travolta stars as uneducated Brooklyn teenager Tony Manero who becomes king of the disco to make it to the top. Nominated for an Oscar, this film puts Travolta dancing with Karen Lynn Gorney. You could also watch the 1983 sequel "Stayin' Alive" where Travolta reprises the role of Tony as he struggles to make it as a Broadway dancer. Be warned that, as most sequels, it definitely doesn't hold a candle to the original.


2. Watch the 1978 supermusical "Grease," which stars Travolta as the legendary Danny Zuko who tries to continue his summer romance with good-girl Sandy Olsen (Olivia Newtwon-John) as the school year begins. Other co-stars include Jeff Conway and Stockard Channing.


3. Watch the 1980 drama "Urban Cowboy," which tells the story of country cowboy Bud Davis (played by Travolta) who falls in love with a cowgirl and struggles to make his marriage work.


4. Watch the 1994 Quentin Tarantino crime drama "Pulp Fiction." Travolta stars as Vince Vega, a hit man whose life becomes entangled in a bizarre way with a boxer, a gangster's wife and a pair of diner bandits. Co-stars include Samuel L. Jackson, Tim Roth and Bruce Willis.


5. Watch the 1995 comedy crime "Get Shorty." Travolta stars as Chili Palmer, a man who travels to Hollywood to collect a debt and accidentally discovers the movie business along the way. Co-stars include Danny DeVito, Gene Hackman and Renee Russo. Watch also the 2005 sequel "Be Cool," which showcases Chili Palmer switching from movie business to the music industry as he romances the widow of a bigwig music executive (Uma Thurman).


6. Watch the 1996 fantasy drama "Phenomenon." Travolta stars as the ordinary George Malley, who suddenly begins seeing a bright light in the sky, only to discover that he has telekinetic powers and heightened intelligence.


7. Watch the 1996 fantasy drama "Michael." Two tabloid reporters are sent to the middle of Iowa to investigate reports that an elderly woman is housing the archangel Michael. Travolta plays the smoking, beer-drinking Michael, who is not what anyone expects.


8. Watch the 1997 action drama "Face Off." Travolta stars opposite (literally) Nicolas Cage as they use a revolutionary medical technique that allows an undercover FBI agent (Travolta) to take the physical appearance of a major criminal who is presumed dead (Cage) in order to infiltrate his crime organization.


9. Watch the 2001 crime thrilled "Swordfish." Travolta stars as Gabriel Shear, a man who is trying to access information that is locked inside a complicated computer system full of government secrets and money. Computer expert Stanley Jobson (Hugh Jackman) is hired to help hack into the system. Halle Berry and Don Cheadle co-star.


10. Watch the 2007 musical "Hairspray." Follow the story of Tracy Turnblad, an overweight teenager with all the right dance moves who lands her dream TV spot on the Corny Collins Show as she battles racism and other criticisms along the way. Travolta stars as Edna Turnblad, Tracy's unique worrisome mother. Co-stars include Christopher Walken, Zac Efron, Queen Latifah, Amanda Bynes and James Marsden.
