Fix Up A Bathroom On A Budget

Fix Up a Bathroom on a Budget

When it comes to redecorating your bathroom, you really don't have to break the bank. Even the smallest changes can have a big impact--just replace a few of your outdated fixtures or even hang a new shower curtain. If you'd like to make a few more changes, all of the following suggestions can be implemented on a budget of less than $500. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint the walls for an instant new look. You can use special effects like sponge painting or painting vertical or horizontal stripes or contrasting bands. The more interesting the paint job, the less anyone is likely to notice any outdated fixtures or other cosmetic flaws your bathroom may have. Just make sure to keep your colors light and bright, especially if your space is small, as no-one likes a dark and dingy bathroom.

2. Splurge on nice new towels and a shower curtain. Be daring and choose towels of different colors - perhaps you could have the bath towels in one shade, the hand towels in another, and the washcloths in a third. Mix and match your towels with a patterned shower curtain and, if you like, new accessories such as soap dishes, a toilet brush holder, a wastebasket and a new bathroom rug.

3. Get rid of your old medicine cabinet. Chances are it wasn't large enough to really hold what you needed it to anyway, so why not open up your space with a nice large framed mirror? You can always install a wall-mounted shelf over the sink to hold your toothbrush and toothpaste, and place a small cabinet or chest of drawers in a corner to hold medications and makeup.

4. Give your sink and tub an updated look with new faucets. You can also change your door pulls and any other hardware for a simple, inexpensive makeover.

5. Replace your old strip lights with light sconces placed on either side of the mirror. If you really want a dramatic lighting accessory, you could even install a small chandelier with a dimmer switch.
