Land Your Feet When Jogging

Land Your Feet When Jogging

Jogging burns calories and aids cardiovascular fitness. Like many exercises, however, jogging can also cause injury if not performed correctly. How you land your feet while jogging is important--both for getting good benefits from this exercise and preventing injury.

Instructions

1. Land your foot initially on the mid-sole (the ball of the foot) with the toe pointed straight ahead. Unlike the stride sometimes used while walking, you should not land on the heel of the foot. The mid-sole is located at the beginning of the fleshy part of your sole.

Your knee should be slightly bent when your foot hits the surface--this reduces stress on the knee.

2. Allow the foot to land as lightly as possible on the ground. Jogging 101 advises you should pay attention to the sound your feet are making. If your feet sound like they are slapping the ground, you are hitting too hard and should lighten your step.

3. Roll the foot gently towards the toe area, using this area to spring your foot off the surface. This spring in your step should be light, however--bouncing places unnecessary stress on the feet and legs.
