Hosting an '80s theme party can be much simpler than solving a Rubik's Cube and a lot more fun. In the '80s, leg warmers, jumpsuits, padded shoulders and big hair were in. People were doing dances like the Moonwalk, the Robot and the Running Man. E.T. just wanted to phone home, and Marty McFly had to get back to the future. Back then, Prince wanted to party like it's 1999. Today, why not party like it's 1980?
Instructions
1. Select decorations and party favors. Find '80s decorations and movie posters online at sites such as ShindigZ and The Great 80s Party Store (see Resources) or shop at your favorite party store. Party favors can include Rubik's Cubes and retro candy like Pixy Stix and Fun Dip.
2. Choose '80s music. Load up your computer or sound system with artists such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Hall & Oates, Chaka Khan, Bruce Springsteen and Prince. Play '80s music videos on YouTube if you can hook a big-screen TV to your computer. Or find an online radio station or cable TV channel that plays '80s music to increase the music selections available to you.
3. Plan games that evoke the '80s. Set up your gaming console with "Pac-Man," "Super Mario Bros." or "Donkey Kong." Have Rubik's Cube contests. Play "Name That Tune" using '80s music. Hire a look-a-like entertainer if you can afford it.
4. Require guests to wear '80s costumes. Suggest that they dress as their favorite entertainer, actor, singer or other famous figure from the '80s. Have a costume contest and offer prizes for the best costume.
5. Draft the guest list. Friends and family members who grew up in the '80s are most likely to enjoy such a party. Send invitations in keeping with the '80s theme. Purchase invitations from websites such as Like Totally 80s, Invitation Box and Party Cheap. (See Resources.)
