Instructions
1. Lay your blue fabric on a flat surface and note the longest and widest sides. Measure a 2-foot strip from the center and cut, leaving the length of the fabric alone.
The size of your table runner will, of course, depend upon the size of your table. This project can be easily enlarged or shrunk.
Take a dinner plate or pot top and trace four circles from your white fabric with a marker. Make two smaller circles using a tea saucer; these will be the snowmen's heads.
2. Fold the edges of the blue fabric 1/2 inch toward the wrong side and iron. Sew the edges of fabric down, leaving a long blue rectangle. Iron the entire piece.
3. Fold the blue fabric in half and pencil mark the center, gently, with an "X." Take your white circles and arrange them so you have one snowman on each side of the "X." When complete, you will have two snowmen facing in opposite directions with their heads closest to the center. If you want your snowmen to have hats, leave some extra space in the center.
4. Glue the circles to their spots with the fabric glue and allow time to dry. Meanwhile, cut two top hat shapes from the black felt, and glue. Cut four small circles for eyes and six more for snowman buttons. Glue everything in place.
5. Thread the needle with one strand of green embroidery floss and knot the end in a double knot. Bring the needle up from the bottom on the lowest circle of one snowman. Work from left to right.
Hold the thread down with your left thumb. Insert the needle into the white felt about a 1/4 inch above and 1/4 to the right of where the needle came up. Slide the needle down and bring it up directly under the edge of felt. As you pull the needle through the blue fabric, make sure the thread being held by your thumb is under the needle.
Use this blanket stitch and work your way around the circle edges, outlining the snowmen. Outline the top hat with red embroidery floss using the same stitch.
6. For the nose, thread the needle with green or red floss. Knot the end and bring the needle up a smidge to the right of where you want your snowman's nose. Insert the needle back into the felt a short stitch away. Don't cut the thread yet.
Bring the same floss up lower to start your mouth. Simply sew a series of small stitches in a half circle under the nose. Knot the floss when you finish.
