Make A Duct Tape Grappling Dummy

Make a Duct Tape Grappling Dummy

Increase your skills in martial arts by creating your own grappling dummy (also known as a training dummy). Grappling dummies are posable and shaped like humans. Practice moves and shape the dummy to temper your take downs, grabs, holds and escapes so that you can use them in your training with other martial artists. You can create a life-like grappling dummy with a few household supplies and some time.

Instructions

1. Use the wire cutters to cut two 6-foot lengths of wire, and one 3-foot length.

2. Bend both 6-foot wires into a U shape. Connect one of the wires to the end of the 3-foot wire at the joined part of the U using duct tape. Connect the other U shaped wire to the other end of the 3-foot-long wire at the joined part of the U. This is your frame. The 3-foot wire is the spine. The two bent 6-foot wires become the arms and the legs.

3. Run the PVC pipe over one of the "arms" of the 6-foot-long wire. Cut the tube where the arm ends. Repeat for the other arm and both legs.

4. Cut the PVC pipe about 3/4 of the way up the arm. This will simulate the elbow joint. Repeat for the other arm. Cut the PVC pipe for one of the legs in half. This simulates the knee joint. Repeat for the other leg.

5. Run duct tape over the exposed PVC pipe.

6. Wrap each arm and each leg in high-density foam and wrap the foam with duct tape, adhering the foam to the limbs.

7. Lay the pillow over the middle of the body (the 3-foot-long wire spine) and wrap the pillow in duct tape, which will fix it to the wire.

8. Adhere the mop head to the top of the 3-foot wire and cover it with duct tape. Cover any remaining uncovered portions of the dummy with more duct tape.
