Jig For Tuna

Tuna are saltwater game fish that many anglers pursue on a routine basis. Found in waters of the Atlantic ocean, yellow fin tuna are prized among many anglers for their aggressive fight when hooked. Different fishing methods are used to lure and catch tuna. Jigging is one method used by anglers that is productive and helps to increase the chances of landing even smaller yellow fin tuna fish.

Instructions

1. Tie a tuna jig onto the end of the fishing line or leader attached to your fishing rod with a Palomar knot. Moisten the knot with water or saliva and pull tight.

2. Throw bait chum into the water in a location where yellow fin tuna are located. Use the chum to draw the tuna closer to the surface of the water.

3. Cast the tuna jig into the water and allow it to sink down into the water. Stop the jig when it reaches the level at which tuna are active. Use a fish finder to help determine fish depth if necessary.

4. Raise the rod tip to pull the tuna jig up through the water. Lower the rod tip to lower the jig and be prepared as many tuna strikes take place as the jig falls through the water when jigging.

5. Count to five when a tuna strikes the jig to give it time to turn and run. Set the hook by raising the rod tip and reeling down on the line. Maintain a tight line when playing and reeling in the tuna and keep the rod tip pointed toward the fish in the water.
