Keep Cool In Hot Weather

Many people love the sunny conditions during the summer, but have a hard time keeping cool in the hot weather. You can enjoy the sunny weather without overheating by using a few of these handy tips.

Instructions

1. Taking the road trip. Road tripping is lots of fun, but what do you do when the air conditioner is on and the car starts to overheat? You have to turn the air conditioner off. Don’t fret because there is a way to stay cool in a car without air conditioning. Stop at the next gas station and pick up a big drink (a cup with ice and lemonade, water, or soda). Get in the car and put the drink between your legs. In the inner thighs are the femoral arteries, some of the largest veins in your body that pump blood to the rest of your body. As you cool the blood off, it is distributed to the rest of your body and as a result, begins cooling the rest of your body off.

2. Wear a hat. If it is hot and sunny outside, put a hat on. It can be a baseball cap or a wide brimmed hat. It will also prevent your face from getting sunburned.

3. Use a fan. If you are inside on a very hot day, use a fan. Nothing is worse than sitting in a hot house that has no air movement. Turn the fan on and get some of the air moving. You can use a ceiling fan or an oscillating fan.

4. Use an air conditioner. If you don’t have a central air conditioning system, use a window air conditioner. You set up the air conditioner in the window and turn it on. Be sure to follow directions. If it falls out the window, it could hurt someone or break.

5. Wear light, loose clothing. Avoid wearing dark colors in the sunny, hot weather. Dark colors absorb heat and you will get hotter faster. Wear light colored clothing that isn’t form fitting, but is loose and airy.

6. Drink lots of water. In hot weather, you want to prevent getting dehydrated. Drink 8 to 10 cups a day or more. To help ensure your water intake, keep a water bottle with you at all times. You’ll be more inclined to drink your water if you have the bottle with you.

7. Keep cool and avoid sunburn. If you are out in the sun, be sure to use sunscreen. You want to avoid sunburn and the risk of skin cancer in the future.
