Carbon Monoxide is a colorless, tasteless and odorless gas that is extrememly toxic to humans. Even though the toxicity of this gas is known, there are still technologies in use in your home that employ the use of carbon monoxide such as gas appliances or central heaters. If these happen to spring a leak, the level of carbon monoxide in your home can rise quickly, which can be deadly to members of your family. Every floor of your house should have a carbon monoxide tester installed. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Purchase the carbon monoxide tester from a store like Sears or Target or building and garden centers. You can purchase them in either battery-operated or wall-powered varieties. Also, some of the testers also have a smoke detector attached to them. Purchase the one that will be the most beneficial for your home.

2. Determine where to put the testers in your home. They should go in common areas like living rooms or hallways. If you need a wall outlet, make sure there is one in the area you wish to place the tester in.

3. If your tester plugs into the wall, simply plug it into the outlet. It should power up. If the tester is battery operated, you will need to get the correct batteries and install them.

4. Place the tester on the wall where you would like it to hang. Make a mark on the wall at this location with a pencil.

5. Remove the tester from the wall and drill guide holes for the mounting plate. Hammer in wall anchors into the holes you drilled.

6. Place the mounting plate on the wall over the anchors. Screw in the mounting plate to the wall with the screws that should come with the tester.

7. Attach the tester to the mounting plate. Replace the batteries in the tester every 6 to 12 months.
