Keep Marathon Grass Green In The Winter

Marathon Grass (Genuine Marathon Sod) is a type of sod that has been produced by Southland Sod Farms in Port Hueneme, Calif., since 1983. Marathon sod is specifically designed for the climate and soil of Southern California. According to the company's website, Marathon sod will stay green year round. Therefore, with the proper care, such as adequate watering and fertilization, you can keep your fully established Marathon grass green even in winter. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Water your grass once or twice a week in early afternoon during the winter months, but be careful not to over-water. The water simply needs to penetrate into the soil. Watering for 30 minutes or less is optimal. In addition, grass that is shaded does not need as much water as grass that is in full sun during the day.

2. Mow your law frequently and according to the type of Marathon grass you have in your yard. If you have Marathon sod, it should be cut when it reaches a height between 2 and 3 inches. Marathon II should be cut when it reaches 1 ½ to 2 inches. And both Marathon III and Marathon III Lite should be cut when they reach between 1 ½ and 1 ¾ inches.

3. Fertilize your Marathon grass every month during the winter, especially if it is losing its green color and turning a light green or yellow. Marathon grass requires a fertilizer high in nitrogen. While the company sells a fertilizer high in nitrogen designed specifically for Marathon grass, you can use any fertilizer that has nitrogen-soluble or nitrogen time-release components.
