Get A Donation Clothes Box

A clothing donation box helps those in need of clothes.

Individuals who are homeless or have less fortunate living conditions rely on the charitable deeds of others to receive clothing. People can donate gently used clothes to organizations that offer the goods directly to those in need. If your company, school or community is interested in setting up a donation clothes box to encourage and collect clothing donations, make sure you have a designate who is responsible for looking after the box and ensuring that it is not misused, and that the donation box is picked up on schedule.

Instructions

1. Research charities that deal with clothing donations in your area, such as non-profit organizations or the Salvation Army.

2. Find out if they offer their own boxes for collecting clothes donations, or if you can supply your own box. Some places may provide you with a box that belongs to their organization, and has their organization's name and logo on it. Other places do not have the resources to provide everyone with boxes, but still graciously welcome gently used clothing.

3. Collect the box from the charity, if they have one to give you. Go down to the location yourself and pick up the box. If you do not have an organization in your area that gives out boxes, purchase a large box yourself and decorate it to grab the attention of passers-by.

4. Ask if the charity has a box pick-up schedule. Some organizations may offer this service as a convenience to community members, to encourage people to establish clothing donation boxes. If the charity where you get the box from offers this service, take advantage of it and tell them where the box is going to be located, such as at a school, library or public building.

5. Find out what the box drop-off hours are, if you have to take the box in yourself to donate the clothes. The charitable agency may have specific donation collection hours.

6. Clarify the items that can and cannot be collected. For instance, certain organizations may have guidelines about the clothes meeting particular standards of quality. An example is that the charity may not want articles of clothing that are torn or have unsightly stains. Also, depending on the organization you decide to get the box from, you may be collecting clothes for a specific demographic of people, such as female children, male teens or female and male adults.
