Keep Shoes Dry In The Rain

Waterproofing your shoes is the best way to keep them dry inside and out.

Rain can do a lot of damage to your footgear, especially if you prefer leather boots or shoes to more conventional footwear. You can take some steps to protect your shoes and waterproof them, but you need to make sure that you follow all the directions properly and that your shoes are the type of shoes that the product you use was meant for. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Decide on a waterproofing product for your shoes. There are a number of choices out there, including mink oil and beeswax spreads. There are also silicone-based sprays that work for both clothing and shoes.

2. For leather shoes, preheat your oven to a low temperature (below 100 degrees), and then turn it off. Place your shoes inside the oven for a few minutes. The heat will open up the pores in the leather and help your shoes absorb the waterproofing agent. Once they're heated, take them out of the oven.

3. Using the horsehair brush, apply your waterproofing agent of choice to your shoes. Make sure the coat is even and not too thick. Leather will absorb the agent you use, so if it turns darker, that's an expected part of the process. Let your shoes dry.
