Get A Liquor & Beer License In Arizona

Beer, wine and other liquors must be monitored in bars and liquor stores.

In order for restaurants and businesses to sell beer, wine, and hard liquor in the state of Arizona, a liquor and beer license is required. The three most popular types of licenses available are beer and wine licenses, liquor licenses and liquor store licenses. These licenses can be obtained through direct purchase from a previous license holder or through winning the Arizona liquor license lottery. If a license is awarded, license holders must pay an annual fee, complete a liquor license training course and keep an employee log of employees with access to liquor.

Instructions

1. Apply to buy a liquor license or apply to enter the license lottery through the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control. There are usually very few licenses for sale on the open market, so prices can be upwards of thousands of dollars. As a result, the state of Arizona created the liquor license lottery in 2005. This allows liquor license applicants to compete for a set number of licenses available through a random drawing. An application fee is required for both applications.

2. Complete the liquor license questionnaire form and liquor license fingerprint card. This is to assure that all applicants are residents of Arizona, have not been incarcerated in the past five years and have businesses of good standing. A background check is also completed on all applicants.

3. If a license is successfully purchased or won, a completed liquor license training certificate is required. This assures that the holder of the license is aware of all laws and regulations regarding the sale of alcohol and beer. This also verifies that the owner of the license has educated all employees on restrictions regarding the sale of alcohol.
