If you've noticed that you're taking too long to walk from one place to another, and you think it's because your strides are too small, there are ways to help you maximize your stride and improve your form. Increasing your stride length will take some effort and discipline, but with the proper techniques, even people with shorter legs will walk more efficiently.

Instructions

1. Wear loose, comfortable clothing made of cotton or soft blends.

Stretch all areas of the hips, thighs, glutes, legs and ankles daily. Improving your flexibility will lengthen your stride and give your legs a wider range of motion.

Roll completely through to the toes with each step utilizing as many muscles in the foot as possible; this will help strengthen core muscles and help you to avoid shin pain.

4. Perform exercises three to four times per week that strengthen your lower body, especially the hips, thighs and butt. Thigh friction can hinder proper stride, so toning these areas will help you lose inches, increase your legroom, improve muscle strength and boost confidence while minimizing uncomfortable friction.

5. Improve your posture by being aware of it every time you walk. Be aware of your spine's alignment while sitting; keep your spine straight up against the back of the chair. Improving posture will naturally strengthen core muscles and increase your confidence.

6. Improve your confidence and self-esteem.
