Discovering if your rabbit is pregnant is much easier than people think. Even though a veterinarian can give you a definite answer about this question, there is a way that you can put your suspicions to rest as well. Follow the steps below to find out if your rabbit is pregnant.
Instructions
1. Wait for 10 to 14 days after the rabbits are bred to check the doe, or female rabbit, for pregnancy.
2. Use your thumb and forefinger to gently feel the lower abdomen of the female rabbit. This must be done during the 2 week time frame mentioned in step one so you do not risk injuring the developing kittens later in pregnancy. It is best to practice this prior to the breeding so you will know what is normal to feel and what is not.
3. Feel for small, marble sized areas in the lower abdomen. These bumps are normally found very shallow or at mid-depth. If you feel two or more of these bumps, your doe is carrying kittens.
4. Watch the doe very carefully each day. You are waiting to see when she starts pulling fur from her belly or carrying grass or straw in her mouth.
5. Place a box in the cage immediately when you see her behaving in this fashion. The nesting box can be anything from a small cardboard box to an old crate. Once this behavior is exhibited, your doe will be giving birth within 3 days.
