Losing weight is never easy, but with encouragement from coworkers and group participation, the road to achieving a weight loss goal can be paved with success. Commitment is one of the most difficult aspects of any heath regimen. By initiating a weight loss program at work, you will be joining in commitment with coworkers to live a healthier life. Prepare to present your idea for a weight loss group to your superiors and fellow employees by making a plan and implementing some creative marketing strategies.
Instructions
Planning Your Program
1. Brainstorm about what kind of program you would like to incorporate at work. Create an outline of aspects you wish to include, such as healthy food choices and exercise routines. Think about places that might be available for meeting. Consider areas where you could participate in exercise routines.
2. Get approval for your program from your supervisor or human resources specialist.
3. Select a meeting place where members of the weight loss group can gather, such as a conference room or an empty office.
4. Provide incentives to potential participants. Contact your supervisor or human resources specialist and ask her to agree to a free day off work for whoever loses the most weight by a given date. Have members donate a "membership fee" and place the money into a pool that will go to whoever reaches her weight loss goal first.
Advertising the Program
5. Compose an e-mail that outlines your weight loss program and specify a meeting time and place. Ask coworkers to respond if they are interested in joining.
6. Bring a tray of healthy but tasty snacks with you to work and place it in a central location. Peanut butter-filled celery sticks or veggies and dip are delicious and nutritious choices. Next to the tray, place printed flyers advertising your weight loss program.
7. Ask the payroll department to include paycheck envelope stuffers to advertise your program.
On With the Program!
8. Invite coworkers to join you for a quick exercise routine during your lunch hour. Consider arranging for use of a conference room and hosting a yoga or Pilates class a few times per week.
9. Suggest that participants bring brown bag lunches with healthy foods rather than eating lunch out.
10. Put together a healthy menu with a list of suggested food items for participants to follow. Invite other participants to add to the menu, perhaps even contribute recipes.
11. Provide encouragment to participants by sending optimistic e-mails with hints and tips on losing weight.
12. Keep a chart in a suitable location that tracks each participant's weight loss progress.
