Make A Route In Microsoft Train Simulator

Ride the rails with "Train Simulator."

"Microsoft Train Simulator" is the company's rail-based equivalent to the popular "Flight Simulator" series. The game offers elements of the model train set, mixed with detailed simulation of various different train types and their controls and physical properties. An added feature of the title, not part of the main game but accessible from the "Start" menu, is the Route Editor, allowing players to map the path of their locomotive before stepping behind the controls.

Instructions

1. Open your computer's "Start" menu and select "Programs." Open the "Microsoft Games" folder, and click "Train Simulator."

2. Click "Editors and Tools." Choose "Route Editor."

3. Open the "File" menu and choose "Select." Choose the area you wish to make a new route for.

4. Click the type of track (straight, gentle curve etc) you wish to place from the palette on the right side of the screen.

5. Click on the 3D route window to place your track.

6. Continue placing track until you have made a loop or a-to-b route. You can also place landscape features such as buildings and signposts from the palette window.

7. Open the "File" menu and choose "Save." Give your route a new name, but don't change the save location or you will have trouble opening the route within the simulator.

8. Choose "Quit" from the "File" menu. You can now choose your route from the route selection menu of "Microsoft Train Simulator."
