Make Quilts For Kids In Hospitals

Donate quilts to kids in hospital beds.

At any given time thousands of children are lying in hospital beds. Many of them are scared and confused, and they would love the cozy touch of comfort that a quilt can give. Many quilters have given quilts to everyone in their lives, but still love to make quilts for others. The Quilts for Kids project supplies quilters with the materials to make bright and attractive children's quilts, and distributes the finished quilts to needy sick children around the country. Donate your time, your talent and some quilt batting, and you can give a little comfort to a child going through a difficult time.

Instructions

1. Sign up at the Quilts for Kids website. Fill in the text boxes telling the site your name and address. Quilts for Kids will send you all of the fabric required for a child-sized quilt, including the backing fabric.

2. Follow the enclosed simple pattern to complete a child's quilt, or use the fabric to create a quilt of a different pattern. Use machine stitching to complete your quilt top.

3. Add your own low-loft batting to the quilt, and use a quilting machine or your sewing machine to machine quilt the pieces together. Sew the edge of the backing fabric to the front of the quilt to create a self binding in the quilt. The pattern that comes with the fabric will show you do this.

4. Sign the enclosed quilt label with your first name and your location, like the instructions demonstrate. Stitch the label to the back of the quilt.

5. Package your quilt and mail it to the address that was enclosed in your fabric package. Register your quilt on the Quilts for Kids website if you'd like your quilt recipient to look you up and possibly leave you a message.
