Help People Who Are Poor Online

The Internet helps many donors find and give to charity organizations quickly and easily.

The Internet makes it easier than ever to donate to charitable organizations and to spread the word about charity events and issues. In fact, with social media and online game sites, ways to help now exist that don't even require donating. However, for those that do wish to give money, doing so online is fast and painless, and donors can quickly peruse and commit to a vast range of projects.

Instructions

1. Select a charity to donate to online. Many charities now allow donations to be processed through their websites. Consider where you'd like to focus your donation. You may be interested in helping a certain group, such as a children's organization like Action Aid or Save the Children. Another factor to consider is where your donation goes -- perhaps you have an interest in world poverty, or maybe you'd like to donate to a domestic project instead. In order to choose, consider using a broader site like Global Giving, which allows donors to choose between many organizations and to search by cause and region.

2. Check your charity's reputation. It's a good idea to enter your charity into the Better Business Bureau's charity reporting center online before committing to it.

3. Log on to your chosen charity's website. Many charities have several ways to donate. For instance, they may allow you to choose between a one-time donation, a regular recurring donation or sponsoring a child. Read up on the different programs listed on the site and decide how much and how regularly you can give.

4. Follow the directions listed on the site and enter your information in order to donate. Some sites may allow you to enter your payment information right on screen, whereas others may contact you via e-mail once you've signed up.

5. Consider following your organization on a social media site such asTwitter, Facebook or a blog hosted by the charity. Following these social media outlets keeps you aware of new projects and issues that the charity supports.

6. Repost information from the charity's social media sites if it's something you find interesting. Reposting spreads the word to neighbors and friends who might not otherwise be motivated (or know how) to help.

7. Log on to freerice.com, freeflour.com or freepoverty.com and play an online vocabulary, trivia or geography quiz. These games donate necessary staples like rice, flour or water to impoverished countries every time you get an answer right. Well-known charities like the World Food Progamme run the sites, and the food is donated by sponsors.
