Make Duct Tape Wallets

Duct Tape Wallet

Trying to think of a gift idea for the person who has everything? Duct tape wallets are a perfect present that most people haven't even heard of before. They make great Father's Day presents but they can be given for any occasion. Or, you can make one for yourself! They're durable and you'll get a lot of compliments from admirers who want to know the secret to making their own duct tape wallet.

Instructions

Making Duct Tape Wallets

1. Cut several strips of duct tape that are about 8-inches long. Lay the first strip horizontally with the sticky side up. Lay the next strip with the sticky side down, halfway down the first strip, also horizontally. Flip it over and lay the next strip, sticky side down, on the still exposed sticky half of that piece of tape. Fold the sticky part of the very top strip over to create an edge. Continue adding strips until you have a rectangle that is 8 1/2-inches wide. Don't forget you have to fold the last piece of tape over to create the bottom edge, so you will lose some of your measurement.

2. Trim the edges down so that the entire wallet is 7-inches in length. Then fold the wallet in half, top to bottom. Put a piece of tape along each side and trim the excess. This creates the pocket that holds the dollar bills.

3. Create another rectangle of duct tape, as you did in step one, except this time the dimensions should be 4-inches wide by 3 1/2-inches after the excess has been trimmed. You will need four sheets like this.

4. Fold each sheet so there is about 1/8-inch exposed at the top. Put a sheet on the left side, about 1/4-inch from the edge, and 1/8-inch from the top. This create a pocket for credit cards. Lay the next sheet an 1/8-inch below the first one, and tape the left side, folding the tape around the edge of the wallet and trimming it for a clean look.

5. Repeat this process on the right side of the wallet. Then put a strip of tape down the middle, securing both untaped sides of the credit card holders. Make sure not to tape the pocket for dollar bills shut. Trim the tape if it's too long. Run a strip along the bottom as well to secure the bottoms of the credit card holders, as well as to make the wallet look better.

6. Fold the wallet in half, and lay a book on top of it to create the crease in the middle. Make sure to check that your money and cards will fit inside. If not, you may need to trim the tape holding the credit card holders on. The most common mistake people make is to get the tape too far in, and the credit cards cannot fit. After you remove the book and have checked the size, then you're done! You have made your very own duct tape wallet.
