Make A Rain Poncho Out Of A Trash Bag

Trash bags have many uses besides holding trash.

No matter where you live in the United States, you are almost guaranteed to get at least one day of rainfall throughout the year. The easiest way to protect yourself from rain is to simply stay inside, but this isn't always an option, especially in cases such as hiking or camping. When in these situations, it's good to have a trash bag on hand as it makes for an effective poncho when you have no other way to protect yourself from the rain.

Instructions

1. Unfold the trash bag and lay it out on a flat surface. Position the bag so the side that opens is at the bottom.

2. Cut a 6-inch-wide slit along the seam on the top side of the bag. This new hole is the opening for the head.

3. Cut a slit on the right and left sides of the bag for arm holes. They should be near the top of each side as they would be with a normal shirt.

4. Put the trash bag on as you would a T-shirt. If the opening for the head is too small, take the trash bag off and cut the hole bigger. Do not increase the size of the hole by more than 1 inch at a time.
