Maintain Energy During The First Trimester

Pregnancy is one of the most memorable -- and yet tiring -- periods of a woman's life.


Pregnancy can be a joyful experience, but the first trimester can exhaust the expectant mother's body. This is due to increased hormones and metabolic rates used to support the developing baby. Eating right, exercising, taking the recommended amount of vitamins and minerals, and resting are just some ways that a woman can preserve her energy during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Eat healthy foods. Stick with small meals throughout the day to boost energy levels. Pregnant women should provide their bodies with vitamins and minerals to compensate for the fact that most of the body's nutrients are being directed toward the growing baby. Eating certain fruits can help an expectant mother get the vitamins that she needs. For example, a tasty orange is a significant source of vitamin C, which promotes a healthy immune system and boosts energy.


4. Sleep is important for a pregnant woman to maintain her energy.


Get plenty of rest. The goal is to boost energy levels -- and therefore, a woman should listen to what her body tells her. If the body signals that it is tired, it is time to rest. Even taking quick naps can be an ideal way to re-energize the body during the first trimester. Lie down and nap when your other children are napping, or when you find time between housework. If you are a businessperson, catch a quick nap at work during lunch breaks.


5. Water prevents dehydration, which helps to reduce fatigue.


Stay hydrated. Dehydration is known to cause feelings of fatigue in pregnant women. This issue can be avoided by drinking plenty of fluids. Water is the best liquid intake for a pregnant woman's body. Avoid sugary drinks since they only provide a quick burst of energy that fades and is quickly replaced with fatigue. Water keeps the body hydrated and creates an energizing fuel for both mother and child.
