Hydrate Your Body

Hydrate Your Body

As you all know, when it gets hot out we sweat more. What does this do to our body? We visibly lose valuable water from our body through our pores and if it is not replenished then we end-up getting dehydrated. Nobody wants this. Dehydration has all sorts of adverse effects on our bodies that aren't at all pleasant. Let's see....you can end-up with heat-stress or worse, heat-stroke. Some of us suffer from diarrhea or it's common name "the runs". In addition to losing water during "the runs" we lose valuable nutrients, salt, and electrolytes. So here are some helpful hints on staying hydrated during the warm months and also year 'round. Let's get hydrated people....!!

Instructions

1. Don't Think Just Drink

This rule title is still a work in progress. All that I am trying to convey is that our body will let us know when it needs some fluids. As adults we need about 8-12 glasses a day and that's based solely on our level of activity. One easy rule if you work outdoors is 1/2 (.5) liter of water every 1/2 hour. Remember you are outside in the heat so you're sweating constantly and you're losing it more than you can consume it.

2. Store Plenty Of The Stuff

We can never have too many sources of hydration. In this part you will be shown the multiple sources of fluids and nutrients, some may surprise you. Store bottles of water in the freezer so that throughout the day they will melt and you will have cold water for drinking all day long. If water isn't your thing, try drinking 100% fruit juice. Next up, sports drinks, these have the electrolytes and other nutrients inside them that can help you get-by. Eat plenty fruit and vegetables like lettuce, watermelon, broccoli, and grapefruit. Milk and low fat cottage cheese, surprisingly are fine sources of hydration. You may also try eating apples, baked potatoes, chicken, and beef. Yeah I know!!

3. Slow And Steady.....

Don't drink too fast or too much or you could get sick. Very painful.

4. Kids Need This Too

This can be a major problem for some parents because they have to basically force their kids to stay hydrated. Of course you know that the hardest one to get kids to do is drink water, so there are alternative methods. Sports drinks work well for kids they like the taste and it keeps you worry free. 100% fruit juice or you can make some popsicles form the juice, kids love these. Give your children plenty of fruit during snack-time as this will help to keep them hydrated too. You'll see how easy it can be if you promote these good habits yourself and your children will follow right along.
