The New York City Marathon is more than a race; it's an opportunity for thousands of runners, spectators, volunteers and city agencies to share in a memorable experience.
Instructions
1. Come out and cheer the 30,000 runners. If you are anywhere near New York City, you can join two million other spectators in any of the five boroughs.
2. Consider volunteering. Check for volunteer opportunities on the New York Road Runners Club Web site (nyrr.org).
3. Help out informally. You can bring out the family, bring orange slices to pass out to grateful runners or just cheer encouragement.
4. Watch the race on television. Check your local listings.
5. Follow the race on the New York City Marathon Web site (nycmarathon.org).
6. Tune into area radio broadcasts on stations WCBS, WINS, WABC and WFAN.
7. Check out future corporate sponsorship opportunities.
8. Attend the Start-to-Finish Banquet at the Tavern on the Green restaurant, located at the marathon finish line.
9. Inquire about escorting a disabled runner. Contact the Achilles Track Club (achillestrackclub.org) for more information.
