Have A Disney Princess Movie Marathon

Princesses who find their true Prince Charming are a big part of the Disney franchise. There are six main princesses: Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle and Jasmine. Recently, Mulan and Pocahontas have been included with the princesses to increase the number from six to eight. The upcoming princesses that will fill the number out to 10 by 2010 are Tiana (in the upcoming "The Princess and the Frog," due out in 2009) and Rapunzel (due out in 2010). The best way to appreciate all of these Disney princesses is to watch the movies they starred in. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Watch the 1937 animated feature that started it all, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." The first American animated feature film in movie history, "Snow White" is also the first full-length animated feature produced by Disney. It chronicles the plight of Snow White, a princess whose vain and wicked stepmother, the Queen, is jealous of Snow White's looks and tricks her into eating a poison apple that puts her in a sleep that can only be broken by a kiss. A prince learns of her plight and sets out to awaken her.

2. Watch the 1950 animated feature "Cinderella." Nominated for three Academy Awards (Best Sound, Best Original Music Score and Best Song for "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo"), the castle in this movie is the main focal point in Disney World's Magic Kingdom theme park. This movie tells the story of Cinderella, who is forced to work as a maid for her evil stepmother and two stepsisters. A fairy godmother helps Cinderella change into a beautiful princess who captures the prince's eye at the ball, but she must return before midnight or else she will lose her princess features and turn back into a maid right in front of everyone's eyes.

3. Watch the 1959 animated feature "Sleeping Beauty." This film tells the story of princess Aurora, who is cursed; if she touches a spinning wheel before her 16th birthday she will fall asleep until she is awakened by her true love's kiss. Her parents send her away to live in the forest with fairies, Flora, Fauna and Merriweather until her 16th birthday has passed and the curse is no longer valid. However, the evil villain Maleficent has a pet raven that discovers where Aurora is in hiding and Maleficent uses magic to lure Aurora to a spinning wheel. Aurora falls asleep and must wait for Prince Phillip to defeat Maleficent and wake her up with a kiss.

4. Watch the 1989 animated feature, "The Little Mermaid." This film showcases Princess Ariel, who dreams of life on land instead of under the sea. She goes to the surface and saves a human boy Eric, with whom she falls in love with. Ariel makes a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, where she trades her voice for a pair of human legs. She only has three days to get Eric to kiss her so she can remain a human, or else she will turn back into a mermaid forever and be owned by Ursula.

5. Watch the 1991 animated feature "Beauty and the Beast." Join Belle as she finds herself in the Beast's enchanted castle, where her lost father went looking for shelter. The Beast agrees to let her father go in exchange for Belle. The Beast was once a handsome prince who was mean to an old beggar woman, actually a beautiful enchantress in disguise. She turns him into the Beast and all of his servants into household objects. The Beast can return to his princely form if he can learn to love another and receives another's love in return before the enchantress's magical rose dies.

6. Watch the 1992 animated feature "Aladdin." Poor beggar Aladdin discovers a genie in a magic lamp and wishes to become Prince Ali in order to catch the eye of Princess Jasmine. Through a series of adventures, Aladdin and Jasmine fight to escape the evil Jafar while learning they are falling in love with each other. However, the law states that Jasmine can only marry a prince and Aladdin fears she may find out he's not a real prince.

7. Watch the 1995 animated feature "Pocahontas." Chief Powhatan's daughter, Pocahontas, learns that her father wants her to marry the warrior Kocoum, yet she is leery about this pairing. Meanwhile, English settlers land in Virginia digging for gold and Pocahontas grows close to Englishman John Smith as she teaches him that her people are not merely "savages."

8. Watch the 1998 animated feature "Mulan." To save her sick father from death in the army, Mulan disguises herself as a man and secretly goes in his place. She winds up becoming one of the best Chinese warriors in the army as they set off to defeat the Huns.
