Make Money With A Personal Training Business

Personal trainers help individuals meet their fitness goals.

If you enjoy fitness, nutrition and motivating others, a personal training business might be the right fit for you. A personal trainer is an individual who understands how certain movements--like weight lifting, stretching and running--affect the body. They are able to market this knowledge to individuals who are interested in losing weight, toning their bodies or training for athletic events. Personal trainers can work in a gym setting; however, many trainers also chose to work with clients in their own homes as an added convenience to the client.

Instructions

1. Get experience as a personal trainer. Many colleges and universities offer majors and courses in anatomy, physiology, exercise science and kinesiology. Some online schools offer these types of courses as well. A students who is serious about becoming a personal trainer should consider getting certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). See the Resources section of this article for more information on the NASM.

2. Create a basic plan for your business. Your plan should include the scope of the services that you will offer: for example, whether you will rent studio space in a fitness club to operate your business or provide one-on-one sessions at a client's home or a nearby park; and whether you will provide diet and nutrition advice or just physical training guidance. You should also determine how much you will charge per session and the types of payment methods you will accept.

3. Have business cards made. Networking is one of the most effective ways of gaining new clients. Your cards should state that you are a personal trainer. You may also consider putting any certification or fitness club affiliation that you have acquired on your cards. You can have business cards made at a variety of locations, such as office supply stores, local print shops or online business paper supply stores. Give your card to everyone that you know, from your brother to your dentist. Kindly ask them to pass the card on to anyone they may think would be interested in your services. You could even offer an incentive for referrals, such as free training sessions.

4. Deliver results and keep your clients happy. Satisfied customers are more willing to recommend you to their friends and family members. They will also continue using your services. Repeat clients and free client referrals will help you to grow your business organically over time.
