Get Faster Feet

Increasing your foot speed will improve your perfromance in many sports.

Increasing foot speed is the goal of many athletes. Increased foot speed will improve performance in most sports. When we refer to foot speed, we are talking about linear speed and agility or the ability of your body to change directions. If you want to increase your foot speed, you are going to have to put in some serious time and effort. Make sure you're physically and mentally ready before you start training.

Instructions

1. Improve your conditioning. Better conditioning in itself won't improve your foot speed, but it will allow you to spend more time training and working out. By improving you conditioning, you will also be less fatigued as a game or race progresses and you'll be able to run faster at the end. Improving your conditioning refers to both general physical preparedness and sports-specific conditioning.

2. Utilize plyometric training, or training for explosiveness. Your plyometric training should consist mostly of jumping exercises such as box jumps, depth jumps, tuck jumps, and split squat jumps. By increasing your lower body's ability to explode, you will increase your body's ability to accelerate and change directions.

3. Improve your core stability. Regardless of how quick your feet are, you will have trouble changing directions if your core is not stable enough for the rest of your body to follow. Train for greater core stability by using squat, dead lifts, overhead lifting, planks, crunches and back extensions.

4. Train using an agility ladder. You should use various drills moving forward, backward, and side to side through the ladder.

5. Train using a jump rope. Jumping rope is one of the most powerful training methods for increasing foot speed. It will teach you to be light on your feet and explosive.
