Mary Kate
Olsen is best known for her "boho" (bohemian) style and messy chic hairstyle. While this style looks effortless, it actually requires some carefully applied styling products and the right hair cut. If your hair has some natural curl or wave, this style is easy. But even if your hair is straight, a curling iron and scrunching gel can help out. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Get a haircut that is long (top to middle of the back) and layered. You can add long bangs or angles in the front if desired, just make sure there are layers in the back.
2. Add some highlights to vary the texture of your hair color. Mary Kate has had every color, from light blond to dark brown, so start with your own base color and add some subtle highlights that are just a few shades away from your color.
3. Style your hair using your fingers rather than a brush or comb. Allow your hair to dry naturally, or if you have to blow dry it, dry it to about 80 percent, and then work the product through slightly wet hair.
4. Add your favorite styling gel to naturally curly or wavy hair, applying it from the roots to the tips on large sections of hair. Use some styling wax or pomade if your hair is very thick or voluminous to weigh hair down and make the locks more distinct.
5. Add scrunching or curling gel to straight hair, and allow it to dry naturally overnight in a loose knot on top of your head.
6. Enhance curls on naturally straight hair after scrunching by using a small barrel curler (1/2 inch to 1 inch). Twist locks of hair into a spiral, and then curl on the iron to achieve a messier spiral curl that looks more natural.
7. Part your hair after styling using your fingers, not a comb, to avoid a very straight and unnatural part.
