Fundraise With A Walk

Organizing a fundraiser walk requires plenty of time and careful planning, but it is a fantastic way to raise funds for a charity or cause. A fundraiser walk is also a great way to rally your community around your cause. The publicity and awareness it generates can help build continued support. This article helps you consider the many preparations that are essential for organizing a fun and successful fundraiser walk.

Instructions

1. Plan your walk. You will need to start planning your fundraiser several months in advance. Decide on the charity you want to raise money for, the date, the location, who will help you, how you will promote the walk and how much you will charge for participation. Determine your budget and what funds are available to you.

2. Make contacts. Contact your charity to see what resources are available to help plan your walk. Contact potential sponsors and partners. Contact the city where you will hold the fundraiser walk to see what restrictions exist and to make sure that your location is available. Contact your local United Way or other volunteer organization to help recruit volunteers and publicize your event.

3. Publicize your fundraiser walk. Distribute fliers at local shops, schools and businesses. Notify your local newspaper. Make sure you communicate when and where the walk is, the cost to participate, register and your cause.

4. Gather supplies for the walk day. You will need supplies for water stations and snack stations. Depending on how many participants there are, you may need stereo equipment to help get the race started. Will you hand out T-shirts or gift bags? Keep in mind that local businesses may be willing to sponsor water stations, snacks and other giveaways.

5. Walk day: You will need to plan this day down to the hour and do as much as you can in advance. Set up water stations, a check-in booth, a starting line, a finish line and signs or posters. The morning of the walk you will need to organize volunteers, make sure they know what to do and direct them to their stations. Start the walk on time.

6. Thank the people who helped you. Be sure to contact participants, volunteers and sponsors after the walk to thank them. You can send an email letting them know how much money was raised for your cause and how it will be used. Those who made particularly generous contributions should receive handwritten thank-you letters. Your appreciation will help you if you plan to hold another fundraiser walk.
