Get A Sponsor For A Project

Draft a proposal for your project to gain sponsorship.

Embarking on a project is not as simple as coming up with an idea and plan. Many of the endeavors you wish to begin will require funding in order to execute the project. While some organizations or businesses oversee a project internally, others rely on sponsors to oversee the project's progress. Project sponsors represent the project to external organizations, work with the project manager to oversee the project through, and help to raise funds. In these instances, organizations and businesses must conduct a search for a project sponsor.

Instructions

1. Create an outline of your project objectives and goals. Objectives differ from goals in that objectives are the intended outcome of your project. For instance, an objective may be to raise awareness of violence against women. A goal, on the other hand, is how you will accomplish your objective. For example, you may write that you will outreach to women or build relationships with women's shelters as your goals. Listing specific goals and objectives will help to shape and communicate your vision later.

2. Identify potential sponsors. Sponsors may be external or internal to your organization. You should, first, outreach to potential sponsors who will be able to cultivate strong relationships with your project manager and play an active role in ensuring the project's success. Additionally, sponsors should be able to navigate challenging political and economic landscapes for the benefit of the project. Lastly, identify a project sponsor who is credible and has a positive reputation among peers.

3. Host an interview. Your business or organization leadership should conduct the interviews for the project sponsors. Ask questions such as what their strengths are in the field, if they are passionate about the project's goals, and how they will ensure the project is successful. During the interview, communicate the need for the project, as well as the risks of pursuing or forgoing the project.

4. Choose the candidate who best fits your project's needs. The candidate should possess vigor and passion for the project and its goals, as well as solid organizational skills.
