Fit Men'S Walking Shoes

Good walking shoes will help you.

You can't underestimate the importance of great walking shoes. Humans often spend most of their day on their feet. Walking may be part of your job, and some amount of walking for transportation is essential. Proper shoe selection can have effects on your stress level, back problems and fatigue. With the plethora of shoes and shoe styles on the market, it can be hard to find the proper fit. With some basic guidelines, you can find an appropriate walking shoe and feel the benefits immediately as you walk out of the store. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Look for a low, supportive heel. A thick heel or one that flairs will cause your foot to slap down rather than roll, causing a poor fit. This results in the slowing down of forward momentum and will increase the occurrence of sore shins.

2. Find a flexible sole and more bend in the toe than a running shoe. Walking causes the foot's heel to hit first and then rolls gradually from heel-to-toe. Being able to twist and bend in the toe area is a sign of a good fit.

3. Find a shoe that fits properly. Be sure your foot has enough room in the toe box. There should be a thumbnail's width (or about a half inch) between your toes and the end of the shoe. Find a shoe wide enough in the toe that your toes can move freely. Your heel should not slip, and the shoe should not pinch or bind, especially across the arch or ball of your foot.

4. Go shoe shopping at the end of the day or after a walk when your feet may be slightly swollen. You want the fit of your shoe to replicate realistic walking experiences. Also be sure to wear the same socks you will be wearing during your walks. This can make a huge difference in how the shoe fits. Try on both shoes. Your feet may not be the same size.

5. Have your foot measured by a professional shoe salesperson. Your foot size may have changed over the years. If your feet are different sizes, fit the larger foot.

6. Test the shoe by walking around the store. Find steps or an incline and feel if your foot slips around when walking uphill or downhill.
