Forget About A Past Relationship

Pick up a hobby to help take your mind off a failed relationship.

Dealing with a breakup might be harder than any of the problems you faced during your relationship. Getting over your ex is even more difficult if you find yourself constantly thinking about that person and obsessing about what went wrong and why. To forget about a past relationship, do things to take your mind off your ex.

Instructions

1. Speak with your ex if you find that moving on is impossible because of lingering questions about what went wrong. You might need closure before you are able to let go. Do not use this as an opportunity to reconcile if your relationship is really over. Getting answers might help you see that the relationship was not right for you and help you feel OK with being single or in a new relationship.

2. Participate in activities that benefit you. Often people forgo their own interests to be part of a couple. Being single is an opportunity to do things that you like to do. Perhaps you enjoy photography, jogging or visiting museums.

3. Get a hobby to take up your time. Hobbies require dedication and focus. Volunteer with kids at the local youth center a few times a week or start a website or blog. Decide how much time to spend on the hobby, and schedule a time to do it.

4. Cut off communication with your ex. Block the person on social networking sites, have e-mails deleted automatically and change your phone number if necessary.

5. Get counseling if you are having trouble letting go of the relationship. Sometimes breakups have significant emotional effects, preventing you from moving on. Counseling can help you recover from the pain of the breakup and move forward.
