Forget Him

Sometimes you need to just hit delete.

1. If only we lived in the world of Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. And if you have kids with him, he can be hard to forget. But it's not impossible. Didn't your mother teach you that you should only give your time to people who deserve it? He took your money, he let you have his kids, he betrayed you in so many different ways. Remembering him is a negative, and it's time to be positive.


Get your teeth really white even if you have to go to a dentist and pay for professional whitening. This will boost your self confidence, believe me. Your smile will be your greatest tool and will help you forget that other tool.


If you can't afford the $200 for professional whitening or the $99 for mall whitening, there are plenty of cheaper options in the dental aisle of the local store. Research your best options, and figure on spending about $30.


2. Get the most comfortable high heels you can afford, and remember they are not for anyone but you. They are not for the guys at work, they are not for the guys on the street, they are not for the guys at the bar. They are for you, so you can feel sexy and cute. They'll help you walk the way you feel inside: powerful, and womanly.


Don't worry about looking like a snob. Lift your chin, straighten your back, take longer steps; it's about you.


3. Lose your feelings of self loathing by remembering, you did not create those feelings. There are plenty of people in your life who adore you. Your kids, your friends, the guy who works in the fruit/veggie department of the local grocery, they all adore you. Someone who sucked up your life for a bunch of years preyed upon your insecurities until they mushroomed into emotional paralysis. It's not your fault. So you can let it go.


4. Down time is dangerous because you are alone with your thoughts, which is bad during recovery. If working full time and taking care of kids is not enough, troll your heart for an interest that will distract you from any down time. Biking, swimming, running, weight lifting are all good options because they are great for your health, are not intellectual, allow you to listen to music while you work out, help you meet other people in a good environment, and are very self centered, which you require for healing.


5. Go on dates. They are very good for your ego. Often they mean you don't have to cook. Dates can be friendly; they don't necessarily mean you're getting married. Relax. Have fun. Let him pay.
