Netflix's streaming video service is activated through an icon on the main menu screen of the PlayStation 3. The videos to be streamed must first be chosen using a Web browser independently of the PS3. No modification of any of the settings on the PS3 Netflix program is necessary.
Instructions
1. Log in to the Netflix homepage. Click "Genres" at the top of the Web page. Select a genre from the drop down menu. Select one of the available films. Click on the picture to go to a Web page that has information about the film.
2. Check that "Captioned" is noted in the text description for the movie before clicking the "Add to instant queue" button at the right side of the Web page. If "Captioned" is not visible and you absolutely need a captioned film, return to the list of available films and select another one. Quit the browser after a film has been selected and moved to the instant queue.
3. Turn on the TV connected to the PS3. Press the pressure-sensitive switch on the extreme right corner of the ledge at the front of the PS3. Remove your finger once the red light turns green and begins to blink. Plug a PS3 game controller into one of the USB ports beneath the front ledge. Let the main menu screen come up.
4. Maneuver across the screen with the direction pad of the controller. Stop when you see the "Netflix" icon near the bottom of the screen. Scroll down until the "Netflix" icon is highlighted. Press the "X" button on the controller.
5. Press the "X" button when the sign-on screen appears. Enter your user name and password -- the same as when you signed on with the Web browser -- if the text fields are blank. Press the "O" button if text on the screen says you must first log in to the PlayStation Network.
6. Select "Instant queue" from the list of choices presented on the screen. Press the "X" button to go to screen of pictures of films that can be chosen. Select the film that is captioned and which was chosen earlier with the Web browser. Press the "X" button to start the film streaming to the PS3.
